The role of systems engineering is to help find and maintain a balance between the stakeholder needs, the management needs, and the engineering needs of a project. So we can think of it as an optimization problem. This video covers how that optimization is done by making good decisions over the course of the project. We can improve our chances that the decisions we make are actually good using trade studies and engineering experience. We also talk about how models play an important part in this whole process with model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
