Process gain and time-constants change with operating flow rate, tank levels, temperatures, etc. This often requires re-tuning of the controller coefficient values. However, once done, desirable tuning values for the operating conditions can be stored in a table. Then as operating conditions change, appropriate tuning values can be transferred to the controller. They could also be linearly interpolated between operating conditions.
